Where no class has gone before

Trek Class, the Fun and Free Course on the Science and Fiction of Star Trek! I'm so excited :)

"As Captain Picard once said, “We have no fear of what the true facts about us will reveal,” and it is this spirit that inspires our mission to think critically about not only the 23rd and 24th centuries of Star Trek, but also the realities and issues of our own time.

For some students, this course will be an introduction to strange new worlds, alien civilizations and unusual concepts. Others may be acquainted with some or all of the Star Trek universe but discover new ways of interpreting and discussing the many forms of Star Trek media. Whether you're a seasoned fan or just making first contact with the franchise, #TrekClass has been carefully planned to tell the story of Starfleet in a way that is approachable for the first-time viewer and delightful for the lifelong Trekker. In #TrekClass, you will explore the human experience through the lens of the Final Frontier. Along the way, discover Star Trek's incredible impact on popular culture, space exploration, scientific discovery and technology innovation..."

I'm always making Star Trek references... usually to my parrots (as if they even get them).

When they're clamouring for for lunch/dinner: "This isn't Star Trek. We don't have a replicator. The microwave takes a few seconds."

When they want to go to their porch cage NOW, and I'm walking them out too slowly for their liking: "I'm getting you out there as fast as I can. This isn't Star Trek. We don't have a transporter."

So far, I have not had to employ an analogy for the tricorder, communicators, or the photon torpedos... although Max does a great imitation of a laser gun firing. I don't know where he picked that up.

That is so cool! Being a child of the 60's (yes I'm very old) I fondly recall the original show. I was twelve when the show started and a huge Scifi fan, plus I had a gigantic crush on Ensign Chekov, I loved the accent (now that I think about it I also had a huge crush on Ilya Kuryakin from the original Man from U.N.C.L.E. so maybe I'm just a slut for man with an accent--LOL) I also remember being furious when it was cancelled after only three seasons. Surprisingly I never really followed any of the subsequent spin off shows although I did see some of the movies.
