Well this is neat

An early work by Hans Christian Andersen has been found at the bottom of a box near the Danish fairy tale writer's home city, experts say. How amazing is that? A brand new fairy tale by THE author of fairy tales! Apparently it's called Tallow Candle and is about candle that's all neglected until someone notices its worth. Sounds a bit like a wax Velveteen Rabbit (which that one always makes me cry -- I can't even explain the Velveteen Rabbit to somebody without crying).

So yay, new fairy tales :)

I too love fairy tales.

BTW I would love to know what your friend thinks of the blanket!

Will let you know -- they couldn't make the lunch on Wed so I had to hand it off to someone else to deliver, but I hope to hear soon. I've also requested a picture of baby on, in or under the blanket at some point after it arrives :)

With you on the Velveteen Rabbit. I saw a portion of that story (the part about becoming real) read as part of a eulogy for someone's father on a show once, and god... I swear. Bawling buckets, I tell you.

Must read this new story, as I love Andersen.

Also it's apparently his very first story, written sometime in his teens.
